The Building Damage Assessment project in Albania (BDA-project), is a project of the Albanian Government contributing to the 2023-2030 national disaster risk reduction strategy. The project aims to equip Albania’s disaster risk management institutions with technical capacities and contemporary knowledge, to conduct and coordinate effective damage and usability assessment after earthquake and other natural disasters.
More specifically, the project seeks: i) to improve the national policy and legal framework for post-disaster building damage assessment services up to international standards; ii) to strengthen the capacity of prefectures and municipalities to conduct and coordinate post-disaster BDA at local levels; and iii) to raise awareness among the population on earthquake preparedness and response procedures.
The BDA-project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by the Construction Institute (CI) in Tirana, in close coordination with the National Civil Protection Agency (NCPA), through a Project Implementation Unit (PIU), supported by experts from the SHA.
