Project: CYCLONE SIDR HOUSING RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Place / Year: Mongla, Bangladesh / 2008-2009
Institution: Swiss Red Cross (SRC)
Function: Backstopping

In November 2007, Cyclone SIDR devastated an important part of southern Bangladesh and the Sundarbans mangrove area. The cyclone killed and affected rural population, destroying livelihoods, and flooding freshwater ponds near sea level. In 2008, the Swiss Red Cross launched a project to support around 750 families by enabling them to rebuild their houses and new individual latrines. The project also rehabilitated around 30 sand filters to filter the water from the ponds.
