This post-Tsunami owner driven housing reconstruction program was designed to enable nearly 4’500 families to reconstruct or repair their homes themselves by providing multi-conditional cash grants amounting to USD 1’000 for a partly damaged house and USD 5’000 for a fully damaged house (USD 2'500 Base grant + USD 2'500 Top-up). The Swiss Red Cross in partnership with the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC) was in charge of monitoring the program financially, operationally and technically and of coordinating with local authorities and public banks.
