The restoration of the mosque and madrasa of Umm as-Sultan Shaban (XIV cent. a. C.) was part of the Aga-Khan Trust for Culture's Conservation and Revitalisation project of Darb al-Ahmar in Cairo.
The restiration works concerned the consolidation and reconstruction of the stone minaret; the implementation of structural measures to reinforced the walls of the façade; the cleaning of the walls and surafces; the restoration of fine wooden, metal and stone elements.
