The 12 January 2010 at 4:53 pm, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake devastated the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. The quake and the aftershocks caused major damages in the provincial towns of Grand-Goave, Petit-Goave and Jacmel, and destroyed the heart of the Capital. The disaster took the life of more than 230’000 persons, left 1 million others without a home and destroyed nearly 280’000 buildings among which many public buildings such as the National Palace and the Cathedral.
During the quake, I was at my office in Pétion-Ville in an area which was less affected by the disaster. During two days, I couldn’t reach my home which was located near the centre, in a highly affected area. My apartment was situated on the second floor of a four storeys building that completely collapsed. Like many others, I had lost all my belongings. But like few others, I had the rare chance to be alive, safe and preserved from the loss of a friend or a relative. The earthquake happened four months after my arrival in the city. From this short period, only few photos of my daily life, which I collected in this gallery, are remaining. I also recall strong memories of people I met before and which I remained long time without news
